2020 CHKM Sets New Date for 2020 Races

2020 Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon Sets New Date for 2020 Races
We are thrilled to announce that we have rescheduled the 2020 Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon to the weekend of November 14-15.

The Covenant Kids Run will take place on Saturday, November 14 at 4:30 pm.
The marathon, half marathon, 2-person relay, and 4-person relay will start on Sunday, November 15, at 7:30 am. They will be followed by the Covenant Health 5K, which will begin at 7:45 am.

As of now, all registered participants are automatically registered for the November 14-15 race weekend. We understand that this date may not work for participants already registered for our March 2020 race weekend. As a result, we will offer four options to currently registered participants:

1. Participate in the November 14-15 race weekend.

2. Defer your entry to the 2021 Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon at no charge.

3. Receive a refund for the registration fee.

4. Donate the registration fee to the Knoxville Track Club, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

All registered participants will receive an email with instructions to activate their choice.

We ask that you select the option that fits you best by May 1, 2020 so we can begin planning for our November date accordingly. If you select no option and allow the deadline to pass, you will automatically be entered in the rescheduled November 14-15, 2020 event.

We would like to thank leaders with Covenant Health, the City of Knoxville and its Special Events office, the Knoxville Police Department, Mayor Kincannon’s office, the Knoxville Track Club, and a dozen other community partners for making this postponement a reality. We also want to thank you, our participants, for remaining patient and understanding as we navigated this process during an unprecedented time in our lives. There is so much going on in the world right now, but we hope that this announcement brings some hope and positivity to you and something to look forward to in the weeks and months ahead.

Coronavirus Statement – March 13th, 2020

Joint statement from the Knoxville Track & Field Club and Covenant Health of East Tennessee
March 13, 2020

In keeping with our shared missions to promote healthy communities, Covenant Health and the Knoxville Track Club have made the difficult decision to postpone the 2020 Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon. All races and supporting events are cancelled for the weekend of March 28-29, 2020.

We love the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon, what it represents, what it means for Knoxville and how it has helped inspire, motivate and transform lives. Given the constantly evolving public health situation and recommended precautions to limit potential spread of COVID-19, we must postpone the events at this time. We are saddened that we won’t be able to join 8,000-plus of our neighbors, colleagues, friends, family, fellow runners and visitors in our beautiful city in a couple of weeks for our favorite event of the year. But, we must put the health and well-being of our community first, especially high-risk populations and our health care workers.

Please know this decision was not made lightly, and we consulted with the Knox County Health Department, physician experts at Covenant Health and other officials in doing so.

We aim to reschedule the 2020 race, but we do not yet know if that is possible. All registered participants will be emailed details on plans as they develop, which may include instructions on how to defer registration to a rescheduled or future race event. We still are working through that process, and we appreciate your patience and understanding in advance.

We understand how hard many of you have trained, the investments you’ve made and your anticipation of crossing the finish line. Don’t stop now! Every step – whether walking, jogging or running – should be a source of pride, and we encourage you to keep it up for all the benefits physical activity yields.

Thank you for your continued support. The Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon believes in perseverance when the path gets tough, taking steps toward better health and the power of all of us coming together. Now is the time to embrace those truths as we take care of ourselves, our families and community and move forward with the greater good in mind.
